David Middleton is Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. He has worked professionally for 30 years. His client roster includes the National Geographic Society, United Stated Gypsum Company, R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Sears, American Bar Association, United States Postal Service, DraftWorldwide, Xeikon America, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Crain’s Chicago Business, Crain’s New York Business, Scott Foresman Publishing, The Leap Partnership, G.D. Searle, Urban Street Properties and the Steppenwolf Theatre.
David’s career also includes employment in Chicago as Sr. Art Director, Ogilvy and Mather, Design Director, The Resources Group , and Senior Designer, Ligature, Inc,. His experience includes work for Sony, Ameritrade, MCI, Popsicle, Maxwell House, Andersen Consulting, Citibank, Whirlpool, Kimberley Clark, Helene Curtis, American Airlines, Houghton-Mifflin Publishing, Ginn Publishing, The Brunswick Corporation and First Options of Chicago.
David earned his BFA and MA in Graphic Design and Illustration from Kent State University. He is a member of American Institute of Graphic Arts and the Society of Environmental Graphic Design. He has served as Coordinator for the Society of Typographic Arts Students in Design, and has been a board member for AIGA Cleveland where he served as Education and Scholarship Co-chair. He has acted as Assistant to the Director for the Kent Summer in Switzerland and Kent Summer in Italy programs, and as Resident Faculty for the KSUCDA Blossom Summer Design Programs. He is currently Resident Faculty for the annual Kent/SEGD Summer Workshop in environmental graphic design.
