Inspire Staff, Summer 2013

Gretchen Caldwell Rinnert, Director

Gretchen Caldwell Rinnert is an Assistant Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. She primarily teaches interactive media and motion design. She is a graduate of North Carolina State University's College of Design. As a researcher, her work focuses on the intersection of design and education, classroom participation, and tools that aid in understanding and comprehension. She continues to research participatory culture by investigating learning spaces, digital tools, online video, and time-based media. Her most recent research has been geared toward designing tools for health communication.
Jillian Coorey, Director

Jillian Coorey is an Assistant Professor in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. Prior to her time at Kent, she worked in Chicago as a designer for The McGraw-Hill Companies, several design firms and a local university. Jillian received her MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago, her BFA from SUNY Fredonia and studied in Basel, Switzerland at the Basel School of Design. As an educator of foundations through upper-level design courses, she is excited to bring her knowledge and experience to Inspire! While design is her passion, she is an avid reader, traveler and a true foodie who loves to cook.


Daniel Echeverri, Instructor

Daniel Echeverri has 8 years of experience in the Graphic Design world, with diplomas in Fashion Design, Art Direction and Photography and 5 years of teaching experience in the departments of Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Advertising at Colegiatura Colombiana design school in Medellin Colombia.  He earned his Graphic Design degree at Colegiatura Colombiana in 2006, studied Art Direction in Aula Creativa in Madrid (Spain) in 2008 and Photography and Journalism at the Asian Academy of Film and Television in New Delhi (India) in 2010. Since 2008 until present day he has been involved with Taller de Edicion a publishing company in Colombia; first as Art Director during 4 years and recently as Research and Development Consultant. In 2012 he started a Master of Fine Arts in Visual Communication Design degree program at Kent State University.


Rachel Hellgren, Instructor

Rachel Hellgren is a graduate student and MFA candidate in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University. She received her BA in Art History from The Ohio State University and has studied abroad in Rome. Graphic design and the printing arts have always been a strong interest for her and since beginning her graduate work in August of 2012, she has become eager to inspire others in identifying and fostering their own creative passions. If she's not at her desk in the graduate workspace, she can be found printing or organizing type in Kent State's letterpress studio, Type High Press.

Brian Rinnert, Instructor

Bryan has worked professionally in photography for the last 14 years as a Sr. Photo Editor for AOL, a commercial photographer, photojournalist, and has taught the last 4 years in the School of Visual Communication Design at Kent State University.  Bryan teaches basic and fashion photography, studio lighting as well as Photoshop, Lightroom, visual ethics courses and even lead students on study abroad trips. This experience has given him a unique background in photography, with an insight to many other visual mediums. He is now pursuing his masters degree in the VCD program focusing in areas such as fashion photography, design, and user experience.
