
The Kent State University School of Visual Communication Design (VCD) Summer Program was developed specifically for working professionals and students at the graduate and advanced undergraduate level. The program is taught by well-known resident instructors and visiting designers of national and international reputation.
Held on the Kent State University campus each summer, the Summer Program provides studio experiences, lectures and seminars for professionals and students. The School of Visual Communication Design is within the College of Communication and Information at Kent State University. Participants may take advantage of public lectures by other visiting designers and artists on the campus for other Kent State/VCD programs.

A $50.00 application deposit for each five-day program must accompany the application form (deducted from total tuition and fees upon acceptance).
The application deposit is non-refundable after acceptance unless the program is cancelled or if space is unavailable. Applications for admission to programs will be continued after the application deadline providing space is available. Since some programs fill early and are over-subscribed, early application is advised.

Applicants will be notified of acceptance. Final payment of fees: check, purchase order number, Master- Card©, Visa©, are due by Friday, May 15, 2009. Due to limited enrollment in the summer program, cancellation by participant less than two weeks prior to the Friday preceding the beginning of the program may result in forfeiture of fees. Housing is reasonable in cost at local motels, apartment complexes or student dormitories.

Participants who have completed an undergraduate degree will be registered for graduate credit and those who have not will be registered for undergraduate credit. Participants may apply graduate credit toward the M.A. or M.F.A. program at Kent State University. Participants who wish to apply credit toward a graduate degree at Kent State University must first be accepted into the Graduate Program in the School of Visual Communication Design.

Tax Deduction for Educational Expenses: Treasury Regulation Section 1.162-5 permits a tax deduction for educational expenses. This includes registration, fees, cost of travel, meals & lodging undertaken to: (1) maintain or improve skills required in one’s employment or other trade business, or (2) to meet express requirements of an employer or a law imposed as a condition of employment.
